Joanna,
again, The Internet is a FREE zone of networking PC's not covered by
Federal or state, county or city laws (re: Exxon Law failed in court)
Non-profit can or may charge dues to as a corp and they may ask for
donations, in our case its donate time & energy toward a common goal.
Usgenweb can declare itself a non-profit and does not need a document
from any state, since they as far as i know, have not mailed USPS a
request for monies to help defer costs. At the present we have FREE web
space and Free access to items. if we shut off access to items then we
are not a non-profit group becuase then we would have to charge for
membership to access the data.
Like you I have spent years with non-profit national groups both as
Board,President and State board officer these groups charge for
membership and are chartered with the states they are in. The dues are
to help pay the cost of the national group and then must be chartered
with the state they work in. USGENWEB does not charge for its services
nor does it require dues to belong. Besides who besides the Dill's ever
really read the by-laws.....????
