Here is a website for Hurricane Katrina:
Katrina Survivor and Family Online Lists and Message Boards
http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Emsgenweb/survivors.htm
Is there anybody on the Washington site from any of those areas?
I plan on putting the link on both Island and Kitsap.
I now live in Arkansas in a small town in Bradley County just above
Louisiana and we have seen alot of people coming here. All the deer
camps, hotels/motels and camp sites are full in the state. They are
getting the government housing/apartments ready. Churches are housing
people also.
I work at the school here and there are already children showing up
to go to school temporarily until they can either get settled somewhere
or go back if they can. A teacher at my school has her sister and her
family living with her. This teacher has two sons in college and she is
single and in a three bedroom house, my son who is in the 6th grade has
a new student from New Orleans.
Other people here have opened their homes to strangers.
On the radio here they were saying some of the things they need which
is money which is always needed, but also canes, walkers, wheelchairs,
distilled water, denture adhesive, etc. (basically things that we don't
even think about that we take for granted). I never thought about these
until they were talking about them on the radio.
And as we were talking at work these kids also need school supplies.
Well now I think I'm rambling so I'll close.
Thanks
Annette
