wow... a disclaimer. Some one back east has a really neat one that says
something like... "I don't live in the county so don't ask me...ask"
and
then has many many links.
I teach genealogy...on and off for 20 years. The Class Motto is...
BECOME YOUR OWN EXPERT. In otherwords, learn how to research your own
family, using basic genealogy principles and all available tools.
So when I get requests for addresses for the courthouse or telephone
book surname information I suggest
http://www.switchboard.com
I regularly suggest the person contacts the genealogical society...who
clearly states their research prices.
And of course, when asked to do Census searches, especially 1910
Seattle... I give a hardy laugh and suggest they order films through the
Family History Center.
If I know a url of the top of my head... I give it and if I
don't...well, I tell 'em how to find it... Like click here for my county
webpage and go to links... or societies... or go to
http://www.usgenweb.com
and keep clicking until you find such and such project etc. etc. etc.
Sorry this is so long...but I took out all the complaints... about
vague queries...or the request to drive to Centralia and copy the surnames
out of the telephone book... (I live north of Seattle)
