Darilee,
Relax. Nothing has changed here, except that I'm adding assistants, and
giving the current County GenWeb Coordinators the first opportunity to
handle it, to best serve our readers. The larger states in the USGW project
have long ago gone to a system of trained County Archive Coordinators, it
simply isn't possible for one person to do it all.
I am currently the person responsible for those things for the entire state
as Archives Manager, and have been since before you joined us. I am not
responsible for anything regarding GenConnect (which is certainly not
mandatory), queries or the layout of your county GenWeb pages.
Yes, as in the real world (and all other parts of the USGW project) I
select people for positions assisting me. As stated before, my strong
preference is for the County GenWeb Coordinators to handle this work,
provided they can do it in accordance with policy and procedure. There are
currently almost 150 different volunteers now working or who have
contributed to the WA GenWeb Archives, making it by far the largest part of
the WA GenWeb Project. It is part of my responsibility to manage and
administer this large and rapidly growing undertaking as efficiently as
possible. The only way a County GenWeb Coordinator would not be suitable is
if they indicated they would not follow the policies and procedures of the
project, or refused to take part in training. There is certainly not a
blacklist of any kind, and all coordinators are welcome, as provided above.
One benefit of this for everybody, including the people we serve, is
that the various parts of the USGW project related to the state of
Washington will be much better integrated and cohesive, and all County
GenWeb Coordinators who are also County Archive Coordinators will have a
far greater understanding of the project as a whole. The relevance of USGW
is shifting more and more away from queries or lookups and toward online
data, and I hope that as many County GenWeb Coordinators as possible will
choose to be involved with it by taking advantage of this. Far from taking
anything away from the County GenWeb Coordinators, this is giving something
to them that they do not currently have, and that a number of them would
clearly like to have, involvement with online data.
I hope this has answered any questions and removed any confusion. Will
you step up and be responsible for Skagit County?

Hi Gang
I really don't understand what's going on here.... The creation of
Archive County Co-ordinator... who according to Kevin
"The County Archive Coordinator will be responsible for the collection,
receipt, and online display of all genealogical or historical data
collected, received, or displayed by the USGW project relating to their
assigned county. "
Since Rootsweb has "given" us all the GenConnect to handle the queries,
obits, biographies, etc. and etc. and now the "Archive CC" will be
responsible for "all genealogical or historical data" where does that put
the original CC. You know, the ones who use to handle stuff like the
queries and maintained the websites, and gathered info and co-ordinated
research.
According to Kevin... the ACC should be the CC but
" In those counties where the County GenWeb Coordinator is not interested
or suitable, I (Kevin) will open the position up to volunteers from the
general genealogical community."
So Kevin gets to pick the ACC??? and Kevin gets to decide if someone is
'suitable'
Is this something we voted on the postition of ACC.???
Did I miss something??? Is this a policy change???
You bet I'm very confused...
