Hi all,
I suggest, that we browse the USGenWeb Archives table of contents at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ to see how other state archives are
set up.
Ok, I'm back :) Checked out NC, NH, LA, KY, OR, IA, MN, and WA.
I find all have a state "Coordinator" or state "File Manager". Some
are
still one man shows, but most have assistant coordinators or file
managers covering a number of counties. North Carolina is interesting.
Their submissions page is color coordinated by county, blue to one
manager, red to another, etc.
Kentucky seems similar to what Kevin describes, although many of the
Archives Coordinators manage a number of counties. Of the few I checked,
some were that county's CC and some were not.
Just thinking out loud here.
In comparing with other states, I would think Washington's 39 counties
could be handled by 8 to 10 archive coordinators. It might be somewhat
of a waste for Kevin to invest training in 39 separate coordinators that
might only have to upload 1 or 2 files a year and change the Table of
Contents, and then, do to the lack of experience, would yell for help
when the time came. That of course, is Kevin's call.
Seems reasonable for him to seek volunteers amongst us first, as we have
html and uploading experience and a close association with the project.
....maybe a little softer and less formal approch. :)
