To All:
I am writing to establish for all the various relationships involved in
this GenWeb Project.
I am the Coordinator for the WAGenWeb Project which means I at least act
like I know what is happening on 39 county websites plus the state
site. Broadly speaking, most of us do a passing job, the majority do a
tremendous job. I don't say much because you are all doing a satisfactory
job and I don't have enough time to pat everyone's back all of the
time. I should take more time and keep hoping I will find it, but if I am
not screaming at you be happy.
Kevin Fraley is the Coordinator for the WAGenWeb Project Archives, plus
the cemetery project and something elso too, I think. He has worked 3
years pulling and scraping to get things pulled together for all of
us. Kevin and I work on this Project on an equal basis. One position is
not superior to the other, but work together for a common goal. To be
truthful, Kevin has done the most work and I have taken most of the
?glory?.
For those who have expressed some questions, I hope this helps a
little. Kevin did not over step his bounds as he asked for help with the
archives project. We all need to ask for more help and get more people
involved and trained. Neither should any of you feel forced to accept his
request for help, but it would be nice if you could refer people to him
and or help with the training. All of this will add to information
available for researchers in your county.
For those who had specific concerns about the Archives themselves, look at
them again. They are not pretty, because they are stored in ascii text
format to conserve space. You can have the same information on your html
pages if you want, but it does take much more space although looks
prettier. There are two search engines for the Archives, one searches by
state and the other searches all states together. Each county has a table
of contents that indicates the contributor, etc.
What we need to do as county coordinators, is spend a little time to link
to these sites on our pages and make better use of the efforts put into
these sites. There are more fun things to do with our pages.
To cut this off so you can finish this before the end of the millennium, I
am going to make a commitment to you County Coordinators of the WAGenWeb
Project:
1. I, Celia Tomlin, WAGenWeb Project Coordinator, commit to communicate
via WAGEN-L not less than twice a month and not more than once a week
(I'll never do that much, I hope). This communication will keep you in
step with whatever great ideas Kevin, or I, or you think up. These ideas
will be just that on the first presentation. If appropriate, they can be
voted on before any final action.
This communication will also remind you of the basic national policies as
reflected on your web pages or whatever else needs to be said.
WAGEN-L should also be used by you, the county coordinators to express
ideas and concerns. I am the mediator, but welcome constructive opinions.
That is enough from someone who never makes a New Years resolution,
because she know what usually doesn't happen. But since it is the
millennium, perhaps it will happen with help. Sorry to make this so long
winded, but I cut the original note in half...
Now, go and enjoy Christmas and don't worry about GenWeb Project until
next week or until you get your computer working again after Y2K.
Happy Holidays and Merry Millennium,
Celia Tomlin
