Let's take a trip west to historic Lewis County, Washington!
Located in southwest Washington, Lewis County is the second-oldest county
in the state, formed in 1854 after Clark County (and we can all guess the
name-sakes of these two counties!) Once controlled by the British Hudson
Bay Company, the county attracted pioneers for its ample land, timber,
and
other natural resources.
Much of Lewis County remains rural, where farming, logging and
manufacturing are important industries. Many pioneers are buried in
Claquato Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in the county. The St. Francis
Mission is the oldest Catholic mission in the county. Learn more about
Jackson House, the first county seat, and George Washington, the first
black freeman in Lewis County and founder of Centralia, the current
county
seat.
I look forward to seeing you in Lewis County!
