Hi, Kevin and everybody.
(Kevin and I have been having some correspondence concerning whether
the Archives Project should or shouldn't have used a file written by my
wife.)
Let's air this out on the state list, too, and see whether we can avoid
calling each other names, while we're at it.
I have certainly tried to confine myself to the issue of the file my
wife withdrew permission for the Archives Project to use.
In order to have the file removed from the Archives Project, I wrote
only to people in positions of responsibility with regard to copyright
issues and the Project, specifically to Maggie Rail, Linda Lewis, Pam
Reid, and Brian Leverich, in that order, in the hope that they would
behave responsibly, because you had not responded when my wife wrote to
you. I assumed that you would also not respond to me. Eventually the
file was removed. I think that was a fair response to a fair request,
in accordance with the explicit policy of the Project. Apparently, I'm
not alone, ipso facto.
I had no notion that others had sent you copies of any of my messages,
was merely twitting you about copyright in general, wondering whether
you were aware that the author of a letter holds its copyright, though
the recipient owns the copy received (but not the right to copy it
further).
(I don't think I'm a liar, libeler, or slanderer. I have tried to be
careful not to be any of them. Especially, I really can't imagine what
conversations you might think I may have had in which the opportunity
could have arisen for me to slander you.) If I were, why would you
want to work cooperatively with me from here on? Is it because I'm
somehow trustworthy, anyway?
I have questioned your fitness to hold the position you do in the
Archives Project, because I believe that the Project, through you
(because of ignorance and possibly wishful thinking) abused my wife's
copyright after having been notified that you shouldn't do that, and
that that behavior was inappropriate for anyone in that position. I
continue to question it.
