Definitely an axe job.
Thank goodness I had saved everything to Rootsweb.

Greetings all,
According to USGenNet's records, Ms. Bednar applied for and was granted
free webspace for two ALHN sites in January and February of 2000:
Snohomish and San Juan Cos, WA; and also the ALHN state of Delaware. Two
months later, on April 5, 2000, Ms. Bednar resigned from ALHN. Because
Ms. Bednar was no longer affiliated with ALHN, under USGenNet policy,
she was technically no longer eligible for the space.
This policy has never been strongly enforced, but Ms. Bednar also
replaced the home page of each site with her ALHN letter of resignation.
Because the letter included language inappropriate for family viewing,
USGenNet's SysAdmin and Webmaster both received numerous complaints
(abuse(a)usgennet.org and webmaster(a)usgennet.org). Prior to taking action,
however, USGenNet's officers first conferred with the officers of ALHN.
All officers of both organizations and USGenNet's SysAdmin concurred
that the sites violated both ALHN and USGenNet policies. The contents of
all sites were backed up and removed by USGenNet's SysAdmin, and are
always available to Ms. Bednar upon request.
From USGenNet's Conditions of Use at:
http://www.usgennet.org/~usgnhome/cou.html
"FREE SPEECH. USGenNet does not censor the content of any accounts
served by us, including domains, web space, email, mailing lists,
message boards, databases, etc. Our belief in Free Speech is a firm
commitment; however, we do provide a Family Service, and ask that you
please refrain from posting or uploading material which is inappropriate
viewing or reading for children. We also ask that you exercise Common
Sense and Common Courtesy, and remind you that Net-Abuse may also be a
violation of state or federal law, or the laws of other countries."
Although USGenNet recognizes that "politics" are part and parcel of most
Internet-based historical and genealogical projects, USGenNet is not a
project, but a nonpolitical nonprofit server.
Anyone desiring confirmation of the above may contact USGenNet, ALHN or
myself (privately).
