I agree with the living info being kept private, TO A POINT. The
information that he is complaining about is the same exact information
available when you pick up an newspaper and look at the Birth Announcements.
IMOA, I think there has to be a limit, yes, but who sets that limit. I
don't want to see SSAN info on living persons, or medical records, but birth
info is available everywhere you care to look.

Hi Steve.
Well, it was hard to find this person's complaint...on their site.
But I did and I see some merit in the complaint.
Texas USGenWeb Archive has birth information for 1933, 1947, 1963 etc.
online.... with an easy to use search engine.... I would guess that the
state of Texas hasn't bothered to released that information to the
internet. That this is the effort of a genealogy volunteer... I repeat ...
just my guess.... and adoption researchers have to love this person.
Personally, I follow the 70 year privacy code. (LDS has a 90 year
privacy code unless person is certified dead). I have been busy scanning
books to the internet and these books are all 75 plus years old. There is
sooooo much information available for the time around the turn of the
century that should be on-line, I can easily keep busy without trespassing
into living person's personal records. (yes, this comes from the fact that
FTM has my personal info (submitted by someoneelse) on a cd)

Folks,
It seems some people on the Internet think we at GenWeb controls the
release of
information as shown on the internet. take some time and visit
this site and come back and post your feelings or let it ride to the next
level what ever that maybe.
