Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Gang
I really don't understand what's going on here.... The creation of
Archive County Co-ordinator... who according to Kevin
"The County Archive Coordinator will be responsible for the collection,
receipt, and online display of all genealogical or historical data
collected, received, or displayed by the USGW project relating to their
assigned county. "
Since Rootsweb has "given" us all the GenConnect to handle the queries,
obits, biographies, etc. and etc. and now the "Archive CC" will be
responsible for "all genealogical or historical data" where does that put
the original CC. You know, the ones who use to handle stuff like the
queries and maintained the websites, and gathered info and co-ordinated
research.
According to Kevin... the ACC should be the CC but
" In those counties where the County GenWeb Coordinator is not interested
or suitable, I (Kevin) will open the position up to volunteers from the
general genealogical community."
So Kevin gets to pick the ACC??? and Kevin gets to decide if someone is
'suitable'
Is this something we voted on the postition of ACC.???
Did I miss something??? Is this a policy change???
You bet I'm very confused...

With respect, I think you've misconstrued what Kevin Fraley wrote
somewhat.
Don't you think that his message was intended to pique the interest of
us county coordinators? If so, then presumably those of us who reply
affirmatively to him would be the ones who are interested, by
definition.
I can't tell, however, whether I or any others of us are likely to be
considered unsuitable.
(I maintain a dozen USGenWeb county sites, myself, and am considering
just how interested I may be in taking up his offer.)

Marge,
I'm glad I am a PS-Roots subscriber, and happened to catch this on
that list. Whenever a county GenWeb changes location or address, please be
sure to immediately notify Celia Tomlin and myself, as well as the other
county coordinators on the project's Wagen-L list. Many pages within the
Washington GenWeb Project link to each of the counties, so this is very
important to avoid broken links and interruptions in service to our
visitors. I will get the link on the Snohomish County GenWeb Archives page
changed at once, as well as any others I find that I maintain.

I would like to send my condolences to Matthew and his wife Michele Porter,
our Benton County Coordinator, on the death of his grandmother, Lorene
Evelyn McCabe Porter, last Friday. Our thoughts and our prayers are with
you and your family.

Please forward to the SC list, County lists, and genealogy related lists as
appropriate.
The United States Digital Map Library, a project of the USGenWeb Archives,
is now under the coordination of Kelly Mullins and Mary Ann Hetrick. Please
take a moment to browse through it at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/. As with all Archives projects, this
one is dependent on both volunteers and contributions. Many states are
currently in need of coordination, and map contributions are very much
needed and appreciated.
