Alright people,
Enough is enough. I have been watching in disbelief as more and more
off-topic and childishly griping messages have come through on this list,
all in violation of the clear instructions given at its inception.
Effective immediately this list has been changed to a moderated list, which
means no messages will reach the list until approved by me. This means that
messages will take longer to reach the list, and more significantly that
far fewer messages will be coming through. You will no longer see any
messages of the "chit-chat" variety, nor any messages that are intended for
a single person, nor any messages of the whining, complaining sort.
Messages that accidentally quote long passages of earlier messages will
have those quotes edited. Only those messages that directly pertain to our
work will appear.
The small number of messages that will now be coming through should not
pose a hardship to anyone. If some of them do not apply to all volunteers,
the delete key toward the upper right of your keyboard is quick and
effective. If you believe you may still be inconvenienced by the small
number of messages you will receive, a digest is available, meaning that
once every twenty-four hours all messages are bundled and sent to you in
one e-mail. One e-mail message in 24 hours (or longer, in many cases)
cannot be deemed excessive by anyone, I shouldn't think. All volunteers
currently working on unfinished cemetery transcriptions must be subscribed
to either mail or digest mode of this list.
Thank you,
