Fellow State Coordinators
It has come to my attention that 4 CC's from various states were
BANNED from access to Official USGW mailing list and facilities
today. (see notice #2 below).
As a SC I'm not aware of any problems that they may have caused
on the USGenWeb-All list (a list that I am on) that justified being denied
access to any involvement in USGW. When were the rules changed.
These CC's are being prohibited from voting in the present election
and participating in Normal USGW Activities.
This is a USGW matter - when was the Board Consulted. I have not
seen any discussions about Banning. Who gave Brian Leverich the
authority to determine what or who can discusses USGW issues on its
official lists as indicated in the bylaws.
Brian Leverich may have the authority to ban anyone Access to
RootsWeb facilities and materials- however Brian has indicated that
he "won't ever unsubscribe someone from an official list because
they misbehaved" - being denied access is the same as being
un subscribed. (see # 1 Below)
Who is in charge of USGW -- Brian Leverich or the elected Board
Members and National Coordinator.

RootsWeb hasn't and won't ever unsubscribe someone from an official
list because they misbehaved, unlike some states with lists hosted
elsewhere have done.

Subject: [USGENWEB-ALL-L] Re: OK, This is Enough
RootsWeb has a responsibility to keep RootsWeb's servers operating.
We owe that both to more than a quarter million users and to
thousands of Webmasters, listowners, GenConnect board
administrators, and other volunteers.
Gratuitously hurtful and/or deliberately untrue posts made on this
list and elsewhere at RootsWeb are making it difficult for RootsWeb
to recruit and retain the system administrators and other staff who
are essential to make this site work.
Consequently, we have temporarily suspended the privileges of the
following four users:
Suzan Cook
Pam Cresswell
Carol Dean
Teresa Lindquist
Each individually has shown a pattern of behavior that we believe
has caused hurt and discouraged others from contributing to the
genealogical community.
For the next 30 days, we ask that those four individuals not use any
of RootsWeb's facilities. We also ask that other users of RootsWeb
not forward traffic from those individuals to lists at RootsWeb or
otherwise make RootsWeb accessible to those individuals. Should
this policy be violated, RootsWeb will take whatever actions seem
appropriate.
After 30 days, on a case-by-case basis RootsWeb will consider
restoring these individuals' privileges. Restoration of privileges
will be contingent upon the person in question promising us that
they will modify their behavior to be constructive and likely to
lead to more, rather than fewer, resources being brought online for
the use of the genealogical community.
This is not the start of some great witchhunt by RootsWeb. In the
last three years, we have suspended the privileges of only a handful
of individuals. We don't expect that to change in the future.
Thanks all, B.
