Joseph Farnsworth b. 1714 at Hartford, CT., son of Joseph Farnsworth & Mary
Olcot.
He died July 1804 at Fairfax, Vermont. He m. (1) Oct 1741 Mary Blinn b. Sept
23,
1718 and died Dec 2, 1760 at Wethersfield, CT dau of Deliverance & Mary
(Stillman)
Blinn. He m. (2) Jan 7, 1762 Honour Williams b. Nov 28, 1726. He was a
physician
and graduated from Yale College in 1736.
Joseph Farnsworth & his wife, Mary Blinn had issue at Wethersfield, CT:
1. Mary Farnsworth b. Aug 1, 1742.
2. Joseph Farnsworth b. Aug 12, 1744; died May 27, 1794.
He was appointed Deputy Commissioner to the Continental Army for Vermont and
in 1766 he was at Charlestown, New Hampshire (the old Fort No. 4 on the CT
River)
There he executed his duties to provide supplies for the army collected at
Ticonderoga, to oppose the movement of British troops in that direction.
He was, at the time of his appointment, a resident of Middletown, CT where he
took
up his residence and lived out the rest of his days. He m. Nov 6, 1776 at
Middle-
town, CT Elizabeth Carruthers.
3. Martha Farnsworth b. May 11, 1746 at Wethersfield.
4. William Farnsworth b. April 11, 1747/
5. Philip N. Farnsworth b. Nov 11, 1747 and died after 1810 at Burlington, CT
He m. Mary ____who died March 13, 1809. He was a farmer in the town of
Bristol, Hartford County, CT.
6. James Farnsworth b. August 1749.
7. Abigail Farnsworth b. Aug 10, 1753 m. July 13, 1777 at Middletown, Thomas
Smith.
8. Daniel Farnsworth bp Dec 5, 1762 at Wethersfield.
9. Samuel Farnsworth bp Oct 2, 1768 at Wethersfield.
Joseph Farnsworth and his wife, Elizabeth Carruthers had issue at Middletown,
CT:
1. Joseph Farnsworth b. Dec 22, 1771; died Sept 9, 1857 at Fairfax, Vermont.
He
m. (1) Sally _____who died April 13, 1813. He m. (2) Feb 23, 1824, Nancy
T. Richardson. He removed to Bennington, VT with his father at age 6.
At age
16 he began the study of medicine and received his degree in 1789 aged
18.
He located to Addison, Vermont where he practiced his profession. In
January
1795 he removed to Fairfield, VT and in 1801 was elected to the
legislature. He
was one of the judges of the county in 1807 and in 1808, chief justice,
a position
he held with only one year intermission, thru to 1824. He left the
county and did
not return until 1836. He was foremost in rousing the people of Vermont
to
oppose the invasion of the British troops by way of Lake Champlain and
volun-
teered to lead them himself.
