Greetings:
PLEASE DO NOT "REPLY" TO THIS MESSAGE, or in any other way discuss KLEZ or
other viruses on the list. Send any comments, or questions, to me privately.
I apologize for interrupting the list, but the most recent virus/worm to
hit e-mail -- usually called KLEZ -- has some nasty twists to it that
indirectly affect our RootsWeb lists. I need to make four short points.
1. PLEASE run anti-virus software on your computer, and keep it up to date.
2. For technical reasons, it is not possible for a virus to pass through a
RootsWeb list. However, KLEZ *lies* about which computer sent its infected
messages.
3. Sometimes KLEZ even pretends to be an update to your anti-virus
software! Don't believe it. It is a sneaky, lying, destructive buzzard, and
the guy who wrote it should be banned from touching a keyboard or mouse for
the rest of his natural life. Which should be spent in a Very Bad Place
With Biting Insects Of Remarkable Size.
4. If you have specific questions related to the list, including the
effects of KLEZ or other viruses, I warmly encourage you to ask me -- but
privately. Not on the list.
Thank you for your support and patience: and now, back to collecting dead
ancestors.
