Hi, everybody:
There is a message making the rounds that is supposedly from a RootsWeb
list owner, about the GenForum people supposedly selling information which
users place on their site. Three points:
1. GenForum is not affiliated with RootsWeb, GenConnect, World Connect, or
any other
Ancestry.com or RootsWeb service, in any way. Any information you
have posted on a RootsWeb site is *guaranteed* not to be sold, ever.
2. The message contains a request that it be forwarded to any mailing list
of which the recipient might be a member. This is a dead giveaway that the
message is a member of the obnoxious species "hoax chain letter", which is
almost worse than viruses. Do not post any such message on any list of
which I am the admin, please. I would have to become very annoyed.
3. Paul Burchfield, of GenForum technical support, stated flatly on 26 Mar
01 on the GenForum messages board, in response to a question from a
GenForum user, that "no information from GenForum has ever appeared
anywhere else". I have had contact with Mr. Burchfield in the past, and do
not know him to state information he has reason to think is false.
And now, I return you to your regularly scheduled genealogy researches.
