Hi Jan,
After consulting several resources, I have not found any references to a place
called Melbourne within Vermont. Resources which I consulted include the following
which may be helpful to link or add to a bibliography for Franklin County resources:

Brattleboro,
Vermont : The Stephen Greene Press, 1977.
"An Alphabetial Atlas or, Gazetteer of Vermont, Summary Description of the State,
Its Several Counties, Towns, and Rivers, Calculated to Supply, in Some Measure, the
Place of a Map; and Designed for the Use of Offices, Travellers, Men of Business,
&c.," by James Dean, A. M., Montpelier : Printed by Samuel Goss, for the
Author,
January, 1808.
"History of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, Vermont, with Illustrations and
Biographical Sketches of Some of the Prominent Men and Pioneers," edited by Lewis
Cass Aldrich, Syracuse, N. Y. : D. Mason & Co., Publishers, 1891.
1795 Map of Vermont, from actual survey, by Doolittle, Amos (1754-1832), From
Carey's American Atlas, Philadephia, 1795. DLC. Philadelphia, 1795. Repository:

By the way, if anyone is aware of a Vermont village or town (present or historical)
which is not already listed on the web page above, please let me know.

Anyone have a Place Names book for Vermont? I have one for MI and I
think I
need to locate one for there - this seems to be a popular question.
Anyone know where Melbourne, VT. is located. Supposedly its in Franklin
County....
Thanks for any help you might be able to give me to aid a researcher.
And if you know of where I can come by such a book to aid in that type of
thing - I would appreciate it.
