Last year I posted the Jan. 1877 part of the diary. Was'nt much interest in
it but I've decided to start posting again. You can check the list archives
for who and where in VT this is.

Thursday, Febuary 1, 1877
Warm pleasant and thawy cooler in the evening and the wind blew some
I done the work and braided some
George sewed his wallet and the babys button shoes where they
had ripped out he tapped 6 trees got about a pail full of sap
he read some in the evening
Friday, 2
Mild and cloudy
I done the housework and braided some George churned in
the evening I knit some on babys stocking we boiled down
the sap and had it for supper there was about a pint of thin syrup
Churned had 10 and 1/2 lbs of butter
Saturday, 3
Warm pleasant and thawy
I done the work George and I went to Wilmington came round through
Jacksonville and got thepaper I got a frame to the drug store and
Wilmington for Merties cards we fixed them in to it after we
got home I knit a little in the evening I carried 32 hats
to Wares he paid me 96 cts a dozzen or his clerk Winslow Ballou
did I paid for the leaf and had 23 cts besides I let George
have it and he paid me 6 cts to the drug store now he is oweing
me 50 cts

Warm and pleasant
I done the work Ironed some Add Eames came here towards night
Monday 5, 1877
Warm and pleasant
I done the work done the washing then cut out baby a new
dress and sewed some of it
George taped 6 pails full of sap
Tuesday, 6
Pleasant and cool
I done the work made a loaf of brown bread one of wheat and 4 pies
we boiled down the sap there was about enough for 5 pounds of sugar
we had some on some biscuit I sewed some on babys dress and knit
some on her stocking in the evening
Wednesday, 7
Mild and cloudy some snow squalls
I done the work sewed some on the babys dress and knit
some in the evening George gathered what sap there was.
There was about a pail full and one half or one and one half
pails full
Thursday, 8
Pleasant and cool
I done the housework and finished babys dress
mended my undereclothes in the evening
Jim Corse came here this morning
george sold him 1 half ton of hay for 5 dollars
I made a sweetened Journey cake for supper
we eat some cream on it
Friday, 9
Pleasant and cold
I done the work and fixed my skirt that is like the babys dress
that I fixed for her Mended my undeerclothes in the evening
George went down to Barbers and played cards
they were gone to Deerefield Jim Corse and his wife and
Ed Ingraham was there he carried down one load of hay to Ingrahams
Saturday, 10
Pleasant
I done the work and finished the ironing and mended my dress and
stockings and Georges stockings and some for baby
read some in the evening George read some
Jim Corse and Frank Gallup came here this morning
he carried the rest of the hay to Mr Ingrahams carried
F Gallups oats and left them to Ingrahams He left his sled there
for Jim to make some new sharves he bought a shaving horse of
Jim Corse for 1 dollar George is owing me 75 cts

Warm and pleasant
I done the work
made a pork stew for supper
George went to Frank Gallups and got some apples
Barber came up just at night and changed papers
George heard that Ed Roberts Wife was dead
heard she died yesterday
Barber said he heard she died this morning
Monday, February 12, 1877
Warm and cloudy in the forenoon
Rained a little cool and windy towards night with snow squalls
I done the work
done the washiing and made 2 loaves of wheat bread
braided a little in the evening
George got some more apples
Barber went to Brattleboro
George done his chores
Almeron broke a road to the Avery lot sugar house
Albert was with him
Tuesday, 13
Clear but cold and windy the wind blew hard
I done the work and braided a very little
it was so cold in the kitchen I could hardly work
we boiled down the sap and had some in the to eat on some biscuit
we had about 2 quarts of good thick molasses
Wednesday, 14
Clear and pleasant
I done the work and sewed on my apron
George went to Frank Gallups
Ed Roberts wife was burried
we did not go to the Funeral
she died Sunday morning about 5 oclock

Warm amd pleasant
I done the work and braided a little
George and I went down to Barbers in the evening
Changed papers
George went to Ingrahams and got his sled that Jim Corse was fixing
he put some new sharves in it
Churned had 8 1/4 lbs of butter
Friday, 16
Warm and pleasant
I done the work
moped the kitcchen floor and ironed some
Albert Bickford came up here and went to Frank Gallups with George
he went home from there Almeron came here while George was gone
he stayed until Geeorge got back he brought him the Tax bill
Tax bill we sent to Jacksonville just at night got the paper
George got a letter from his sister Hattie
Saturday, 17
Cold squally and windy
I done the work and braided a little
made 6 apple pies and baked some beans for supper
George went to Frank Gallups got some of the buckets that he bought of
him left them to the sugar house now George is owing me one dollar

Clear and cold
I done the work
it was so cold we set over the stove most of the time

Pleasant and cold

trimmed some leaf
George went to Frank Gallups got the rest of his buckets
Albert Bickford and his Father came in here
they chopped wood for George
we went to Jacksonville just at night
I stoffed to Robert Burrington
Tuesday, 20
Pleasant and cold
I done the work up then got ready to go to Jacksonville
Almeron and Albert Bickford came in here when they went up the hill
to chop for George George went to Jacksonville and got the horse
shewed and gathered in some taxes
I and baby went to Robert Burringtons and made a visit
Theresa Dalrymple came there just as we was comming away
I have braided three hats today
Wednesday, 21
Warm and pleasant
I done the work and braided 4 hats
George went to Rome with Mr Bickford
he came up here this morning
Albert Bickford done the chores
Thursday, 22
Warm and pleasant
I done the work
went to Wilmington with Geo
braided 2 1/2 hats before we went
his mother washed the dishes
I bought 2 picture frames for 1.10 cts of C M Russell
carried up 12 hats to O O Wares
got a due bill of 98 cts for the hats
let Russell have it toward my trading
Mrs Bartlett went with me to the store
she has broke her arm she broke three weeks ago next monday
I eat supper to Mrs Bartletts
Churned had 2 3/4 lbs of butter
Friday, 23
Warm and pleasant
I done the work
Almeron and Albert Bickford came here
they are chopping some more for george
we fixed the pictures into the frames
I bought a picture of george Nursing in union hospital
and I was oweing Mary some and she was oweing Geo and we
turned it and I paid George the rest for the stand and the
picture so now George is oweing me 75 cts tomorrow night
Saturday, 24
Cloudy the wind blew hard from the northeast
It moved all the afternoon
I done the work and made 6 squash pies and 3 apple pies
George went to Jacksonville got the paper
I braided some moped the floor
Sam Tyler came here to get some hay
George did not let him have any

Cloudy and cool The sun shone some
I done the work
I read a little in the Centennial book
had a baked indian pudding and some beans and squash pie for supper

we played cards a little while in the afternoon

finished the washing
Almeron came in here
George went to Perry Halls and round gathering the school tax
he got home about 4 oclock
I braided one hat

Warm and pleasant
I done the work and cut out part of my long night dress
and braided some in the evening
George went Jacksonville and borrowed some money of
Ed Starr to pay his interest money
he got some more taxes
Almeron and Albert went up on the hill chopping for Henry Roberts
they went by here stoped out to the door
