"Also in this circle of social and professional friends with the Gulicks, the
Setons, the Langdons, and the Beard siblings were Mary Schenck Wollman,
professor at Columbia University, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Farnsworth. Mrs.
Farnsworth was the head mistress of the Horace Mann School; Mr. Farnsworth
ran a camp in Thetford, VT. The Farnsworths were an "old family" with a good
bit of property in the small town of Thetford. That in itself would suggest a
connection between them and the Langfords, the pageant writers for the 150th
anniversary of the town. The Farnsworths were also "monied" folks who left
behind "The Charles Farnsworth Trust." Between 1997 and 2000, the trust gave
at least $10,000 to an educational organization called "Generations
Incorporated," a group which brings together urban youth and elders to help
the communities where they live.
