You're right, there are 'some' that do backup's religiously.
My external drive is powered by the USB and it is easily
connected/disconnected. This same drive is my backup drive for a number of
systems. This keeps the cost at a minimum. And it doesn't have the run hours
of a secondary internal drive running as a RAID system. If you're talking
about backing up your bios, that can be done but if that goes south it's
time for a new MB.

Glad you were able to recover your data. Sounds like your drive is still
good, being a SATA drive you can reformat
it and add it to your new pc, but probably you don't need it with the large
drives that come with new pc's.

Paul:
1. If your only backup is to your PC's internal hard drive, you do NOT
have a backup.
2. If your external hard drive is always connected to your PC and turned
on, for all practical purposes it's an internal hard drive -- except
it's easier to bump off the desk and onto the floor. See point 1.
3. Not everybody is guilty of not backing up. Almost, but not quite
everybody.
