Matt--
As for where they reside, it has to be in public_html. Any file labeled
index.htm or index.html will show up when you go to
http://rootsweb.com/~vawarwic
You can delete warwick.htm or have it redirect to your new homepage.
The vawarwic files belong to the project. Contributed items, etc, that
were submitted to the project and reside in those files can be reused.
You should be able to upload, assuming you have the signon where the
username is vawarwic and you have a password. I can download anyone
that's hosting on
rootsweb.com if I pay enough attention-- I cannot
*upload* to everything, only what I am logged in as.
You have to use the password to upload, there should be settings if you
"save" the connection in FileZilla you don't ahve to keep typing it.
You have to have a query board available, the easiest way is to LINK to
an existing one. See the left column of my Frederick COunty for example.
You don't have to link to any specific one, you can simply choose your
favorite.
Also, I suggest you make a backup of the old site to keep for reference
for when someone emails to ask "what happened to xxxxxxxx on your site?"
Also you make sure you didn't lose contributions.
If you have more questions feel free to contact me.

Sorry it's taking me so long to get the new pages posted.
I think I have the new pages ready for Newport News/Warwick Co, but...
1. I'm confused about where the pages should reside, and what they should be named.?
I saw that some folders have a file "index.htm" that seem identical with the co.
homepages my browser presents.
>From working with the VAGenWeb Archives, I'm used to having a *.htm [or image]
file posted to the archive_html directory [or *.txt file posted to the archive_ftp
directory].
Within the directory "vawarwic" I see a public_html folder, chock-full of
"stuff."? The existing file "warwick.htm" is a place-holder, which
redirects automatically to "vanewpor"- which no longer exists, as such.
2. I was able to download files from this folder, but not upload any.? My FTP Client
[FileZilla] stated, "Critical Transfer Error."
3. Is it necessary [even if only for the benefit of the High Guru] to use the appropriate
password, even if I already have access to the server via another password?
4. Do I need to set up a query page, or message board for queries?? Greg's old
Newport News page didn't have one.? The old Southampton site does have one (along with
an "Old Queries" link to the Rootsweb Message Board for Southampton).? I'm
confused about these also.
I really dislike how the existing Southampton Query page looks, especially how the
"Ads by Google" are interspersed with the query postings.
Thanks for your patience,
Matt Harris
