I'm thinking that it's the people that put in all the addresses they've
corresponded with, that wind up sending me these invites -- but I've gotten
a few of these emails now recently from people also involved in USGenweb. I
think it's people that put all their contacts into the form to "find your
friends" and then send invites to those without facebook.
I just wanted to let people know if they specifically care, that I do have a
facebook, it is not associated with this email address-- and the emails it
sends me are only to "sign up" but don't let me find the individual
requesting it with an existing account. However I am the *only* Alice Brosey
on facebook. I also have Alice Warner as a "second/maiden name" so when you
search for Alice Brosey it actually shows one exact result, me, and both
names -- so it's easy to tell it's me. I can't respond to these "friend
requests to set up an account" but it's not that I want to keep people away

My apartment complex did the same thing -- was trying to add everyone in the
complex, and couldn't find my husband or me on facebook because they were
searching the wrong email addresses. I had to tell the receptionist to try
our names. My husband and I have the odd luxury (temporarily?) to be the
only individuals with our spelling of our names (living) that google or
whitepages knows of existing, so we're easy to find!
