Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that a new query system is in the works. Patty
Lindsey and Stacy Whitney are working on the code and Brian is setting up a
computer for this type of application.
For those who are not aware, Patty is also working on a program for a
master index of surnames and queries. This is called Surname Helper. The
new query system will incorporate this new index and should be an asset to
researchers.
I also checked out the new KY query system at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwqury/ky/hopkins/index.cgi
For those that haven't seen it, they are using a Web-based bulletin board
system. Seems to work well, it has sorting options and search features.
This could be a viable solution for CC's that want a true hands off option.
One problem with the 'hands off' approach is anything can be posted without
intervention. Since I recently assumed the Highland Co., VA CC role and my
experience with Augusta Co., VA queries, I prefer to be able to read the
query first to make sure of it's content. I've had a few which were simple
- How do I this... - and better off not on the query page.
Between the KY system, the new (in the works) system, and other solutions
that individual CC's have incorporated, I believe we will be in good shape.

Apparently, the visitor can customize the page themselves.
