Hi Everyone:
Don't know how many of you are on USGW-ALL, but there are some concerns
about the CCs not being notified when additions about their county is added
to the Archives.
Here is my reply to that concern:
Every one of my Archives html pages (tables of content for the various
counties) has a URL-minder fill-in box, for the visitor to use so they will
be notified when changes to the page are made. Everyone can use this box,
not just submitters and/or CCs.
For an example, see the page for Aurora Co., SD
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/sd/aurora/aurora.html
I have had the URL-minder fill-in on all my pages for over two years now.
Be aware this service does not distinguish between new additions and
cosmetic changes, so I try to make cosmetic changes only when I add files
to the archives.
Anything that will change every time the page is accessed (such as a
counter, the time or date) will also trigger a message. I enclose that
information in <URL-MINDER-IGNORE> and </URL-MINDER-IGNORE> tags.
You can also subscribe to net minder on your own for anything you want to
watch on a regular basis:
http://minder.netmind.com
All you need is the URL's you want 'em to watch. The software is even smart
enough to let you know if a URL has changed.
