Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Shenandoah Co has chosen the search engine used by Cyndi. It's great!
Thanks to everyone for the info and thanks to Don Silvius for getting the
search engine on the Shenandoah County site already!
If anyone wants more info, Don will help them.......won't you, Don? :) I
think this one is named freefind.

I use both Pico Search, http://www.picosearch.com and Pinpoint Search,
http://pinpoint.netcreations.com/ on the Russell County Virginia Site.
With the Pico Search you can not only search for surnames but you can
also search for full names and phrases by including your search in
quotation marks. Examples: a search for "Smith" will give you results
for all Smith's on the site, A search for "John Smith" will give
results only for all John Smiths on the site, and a search for "John
William Smith" will give results only for all John William Smiths on the
site. A search for a name without quotation marks, such as John Smith,
will result in hits for any John or any Smith on the site. I can
recommend both of these if you have a large website as I do.

The last I heard Rootsweb wasn't accepting anymore sites to be added to
their search engine. Maybe that's changed by now.
I've been using "whatuseek" at:
http://www.whatuseek.com
Haven't had any problems with it.
