I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed the VA Web page.
Most counties are easy to search. I must admit I really like Ohio's
clickable county map as it allows one to see where each county is placed
in relation to one another. However, VA has been the most useful as far
as getting information.
Thank you again for providing such a wonderful service to those who are
in search of their families.

Hello! My dad in NC wants to know about the old hometown of Dr. Bill
Carter, methodist minister, born about 1920-something in "Slant" VA.
This town is no longer on maps, and had a population of 65 in 1950. It
was located northwest of Gate City in Scott County, VA. Do you know
where we can get more info. on the old town? Thank you for a reply!
Sincerely, Ellen Frazer

Everyone should be using users.rootsweb.com and not ftp.rootsweb.com
when uploading files to Rootsweb. Since they moved to a larger, faster
server, the ftp one was taken down. (I think!)
Linda
Carol is correct. We should all be using users.rootsweb.com. The
ftp.rootsweb.com is obsolete.

Look and see if you have it set to access Rootsweb as: ftp.rootsweb.com
If you do, change it to users.rootsweb.com
I've been accessing rootsweb as ftp.rootsweb.com from the beginning but it
won't let me on using that. It did let me on when I changed it to the
"users"

Does anyone know if there is a problem with the rootsweb computer? When
trying to log on to load up files I keep getting the message "user
access denied" and then I get an error message "user ID not accepted". I
have been getting this same message now for two days. I haven't changed
the user ID or anything else, so there shouldn't be a problem on my end.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks,
Mike
Russell County VAGenWeb
I received this from one of our fellow researchers, and thought it
worthwhile to pass on.
`Who says computers do not help. I recently sent out a querry looking
`for my mothers birth father. In the last week and a half I have been
`able to locate her birth family. We have confirmed the info and we
`have also taken my mother to Virginia to meet them. She now has 2
`half-brothers living and 2 step- sisters living. Talking about one
`happy lady. Especially since the only brother she had died at an
`early age. We were able to send photos across the internet to confirm
`this before we made that trip also. I want to stress to everyone
`important that it is to answer these querry's because you may not know
`who you are helping. Thanks to everyone who sent info to me. I will
`be asking for more after this because it does work.

Freddie S.

Linda,
I don't have a Migration page for Russell as of yet, but awhile back I
received an inquiry about this sort of project. Am going to fly it by
my mailing list to see what they think.
