Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Linda,
Everything's great in Rockbridge and Botetourt! No wet noodles here!
(At least from a file manager's point of view on both those counties,
and co-coordinator on one. ) :)

Here's a big fat egg noodle for ya! You're doing just fine Linda. You
apologized for the misunderstanding, and I probably would've made the same
"error". Hold your head up and keep up the good work. :-)

All the Archives file managers have been asked by the project
coordinator (me!! LOL!!) to check with the cc's of their state to see if
there are any concerns about the USGenWeb Archives and the way files are
uploaded and general communication between the file managers and cc's.
Well? Anyone have a wet noodle for me?
Linda
Thank you for this notification.

Please share with your county coordinators.
Sue Skay Abruscato, the MS file manager for the USGenWeb Archives, and
the Madison County MS county coordinator, has a wills and probate
project that combines CCHelper with the actual documents in the
Archives.
Sue said:

I've created a searchable database using CCHelper. In the database
we've
abstracted the names and relationships from the will and probate records
that my husband has been transcribing and uploading to the archives.
His
goal is to transcribe all the wills in Will Book A which covers the
years
1827 to about 1892. Included along with the abstract is a link to the
full
transcription in the *archives*. So basically what I've accomplished
here
is create a project around documents in my county's archives. The
database
is searchable using the CCHelper features of indexing surnames,
registered
with Surname Helper and also searchable through the Archive search
engine.
Look at how many possibilities of someone finding this information has
been
covered here.
The main thing I find important here is that if I ever give this county
up,
my replacement may not want to continue adding to this database, or
might
want to get rid of it completely. The documents (and all my husband's
hard
work) is safely tucked away in the archives for anyone in the future to
use.
Have I taken anything away from my county pages? I think not! If
anything
it has enhanced them. All our visitors just love them. I've had many
of
them jump at the chance to add *their* wills to our collection in the
archives.

County coordinators are encouraged to link directly to any or all files
in the ftp directory of their county:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ss/cc (ss = 2 letter state abbr., cc
= full name of county, all lowercase)
Or they can link to the html table of contents for their county:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ss/xxxxxxxx.xxx
Thanks,
Linda
There is no policy against having webrings on your page, as long as they
aren't commercial.
I have one on my Blair County PA webpage, and the main page of the
Archives.

There's a town named Colfax in Marion Co, WV. Marion Co. was formed in 1842
from Monongalia and Harrison Counties Virginia. Think this might be it.

Hi Angela,
I just reviewed your wonderful list of counties and when they were
formed....but I did not have any luck finding the answer to my question.....so
thought I would take a chance and check with you about it.
I ran across a biography for one of my McClanahan ancestors. It said that the
parents were from "Colfax County, Virginia".....This would have been prior to
1828.....approx. 1800. I've had no luck locating a Colfax Co., VA. during any
time period.
Have you ever heard of it? I would greatly appreciate any assistance with
this. Thank you so much for all the hard work you have done posting this
wonderful information on the Virginia website.
Best wishes.....Gloria (Birlew) Hursey

The August monthly report for the statistic, and total files located
in the USGenWeb Archives can be viewed:

Thanks to Randy Winch, who also wrote GenConnect, for creating an
automatic stat report that generates this report daily, and to Dale
Schneider for making it happen. Of course, thanks again to Dr. Brian
Leverich of Rootsweb for making it possible. Also thanks to the
tireless (did I say that??) volunteers of the Archives who are
dedicated to getting free data online for researchers. The Archives has
almost ONE GIG of data, freely accessible and searchable.
The daily report can be viewed:
