Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hang in there, Linda. You are doing great and we are proud of you.
We need someone who can make quick *honorable* decisions, and
that is one thing you do best.
The ALL-ish list is good for keeping crime contained and off of the
street. :)

I'm up to about a nickel's worth now:
It seems to me from the time I have been involved in the VA GenWeb
Project, that I have noticed that the same people wear multiple hats.
Could this possibly be because there aren't enough GOOD, HONEST people
to do all the jobs? If everyone only did one thing, the Project
wouldn't be where it is today.
And in my humble opinion, in light of some of the recent events like the
theft of usgenweb.com, not all of the volunteers seem to have the same
goals. I have never thought of personal gain - be it intrinsic or
egotistical- being associated with volunteerism.
Let the individuals who complain about the same people's jobs crossing
lines, go out and find GOOD, HONEST people to fill the gaps.

I thought I would let you know that I am glad you shared the email about
the nomination bru-ha. I am just sorry you have to deal with that sort
of stuff. As someone else said, it is good to know what's going on, but
it is still a shame that some folks don't know how to better manage
their time......or maybe they just don't have enough to do. Or, maybe
they should set their goals a little higher....

Linda,
Sorry for the long delay in responding - King William is using GenConnect -
last posting was June 7 - all is working well with it so far.

It would be nice if folks would direct all their excess energies to
contributing files for the archives, transcribing a census report,
inventorying a cemetery or something else worthwhile instead of trying
to tear down what's been done. Not to mention that because of their
activities, others are also drawn into the fray and their time wasted as
well.
Sorry, but I am having a "2 cents" moment.......

Yayy!!!! Freddie Spradlin maintains the Virginia Surname Registry for
VAGenWeb and is the assistant state coordinator. He is my right arm! The
other VAGenWeb cc's are the life, breath and blood of the project.

Hey Linda,
If you get this message, then everything is "fine as frog hair" around here.
If you don't get this message, then do you have any other suggestions? [OK
people, I'm only joking :) ]

Linda...
Please don't be sorry you forwarded that to the list. I think it's good
for us to 'see' what fools and idiots there are out there at times. Just
a bit of reality ya know. <g>
Hang in there Linda!!! Don't let em get your dander up... <LOL> Most
times my 'ignore' button works real good but I had no control over it
this time. <LOL> Just had to see who the 'jerk' was...
Hugsssssss,

Who is this "Joanne Gruber Abby" anyway??? And who is she to
be talking about "justice" in an all volunteer project???? <sigh>
Excuse the 'out burst'....

I'm having some of this type of problem, too. Brought it up at our CIG
meeting today. One person suggested it might be related to the fact that
the amount of free disk space is beginning to get too small. Anyone else
got any ideas???

I was tied up the evening you scheduled the IRC meeting and was just

Sorry to forward that.. but that's some of the things going on over on
usgenweb-all.
Joanne Abbey is the wife of Anthony Abbey, who asked me for the Hampton
Roads areas counties, particularly Princess Ann. When I told him it was
already taken, he contacted Teresa directly asking her for it. After
that, when I was outraged that he would do that, and in the manner he
used, he started saying awful things about me and the webpage. <sigh>
Linda
Joanne,
I would like to make it clear, that I resigned from the elections
committee TWO minutes after I accepted the nomination. The acceptance
message went out first, then the resignation message.
The reason I chose to be on the elections committee was so that I would
not be nominated for anything, as I was already getting pressured to run
for national coordinator by my VAGenWeb cc's and others. I wanted to
concentrate on my work with the USGenWeb Archives at the national level.
Two or three nominations came in and I turned them down. The most recent
one.. I accepted, and immediately resigned from the committee. Before
accepting the nomination, I made sure there was a capable person that
would step in and oversee the USGenWeb Archives in case I was elected.
My input on the committee was to advise on how the first vote was held
in the USGenWeb Project, in Nov. 1996, because I had knowledge of that.
No decisions by me were made on that committee.
If I see an overwhelming majority of people that think I shouldn't run
for national coordinator, I would certainly decline the nomination and
put my support behind someone I felt had the good of the project in
mind, but not support someone that has questionable motives.
As the archives of this mailing list will prove, I have continued to
post honest messages and have tried to straighten out rumors and
untruths. Yes, I've been very vocal, but I believe in this project and
am insulted and disappointed at some of the actions that a few
individuals have taken over the last two years, in particularly the last
six months. I have fought against outsiders trying to take advantage of
The USGenWeb Project and the work of its volunteers, and I'll fight
against insiders who try to do the same. Just this last week, I helped
get the usgenweb.com domain returned to its legal owner.
So... I've thrown my hat into the race.. and hope the majority of the
volunteers are as passionate about The USGenWeb Project as I am, and
will not take advantage of it.
