Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
What is the line of code you can place on a county page to search the
mailing list for that county?

Linda,
I've set mine up so that I receive notification by email of every post made

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I had a obscene statement posted on
my new bios. You may want to check your page to be sure you weren't hit too.

WVGEN-L is the email list for necessary communications for maintaining the WVGenWeb state page and all related county pages.
All WVGenWeb CCs should remain subscribed to this list.

Linda, I agree that it is better not to forward to this list the formal
complaints, for I believe they would be "tried" here, and this is not the
place.
However, I would like to receive them privately, to gather anything
constructive I can from them. Can that be routinely done, without putting too
much burden on you?
Thanks for offering the option.
JoLee
There has been some discussion on the sc list and the usgenweb-all list
about what sc's should forward to the cc's. I haven't forwarded a couple
of formal complaints to this list because it should have gone to the
Board, and passing it on just seems to fuel flames. If there is or will
be any decision by the Board as a result of a formal complaint, I will
definitely forward that here.
If you want to receive copies of the complaints, please let me know, and
I'll either send them here, or to you privately.
Thanks,
Linda

I think it's a great idea to link the WVGenWeb & VAGenWeb pages--in the
simplest manner possible
Candy Parent

candy(a)htonline.com
In my opinion, there should be a list of the counties, under the
current Virginia counties saying something to the effect of: Former
Virginia Counties, now part of West Virginia, and then list them with
without links but have one link to the main West Virginia page. It
would be too hard for our coordinator to keep-up with changes in hosts
and address for those pages as well as our own. The names will not
change because they are in the past so they are safe to post. However,
the web changes all the time so links would be difficult to maintain
Also, if you put too much into recovering all the history of Virginia's
past territory it would be too difficult. You would have to include
most of the United States because prior to the mid-1600's, Virginia west
westward, indefinitely. I think a section of this nature, with one link
to the WVa page, would be sufficent.
Kevin Lett

Hey Linda,
I think the best approach would be to include the WVa county names WITHIN the
list of Va county names, but maybe place a "(WVa)" or "(now WV)" behind the
name. You could also add a one-liner at the top of the table -- to inform the
three people that may read it -- that some former Va counties are now in WVa.
Wayne Dunn
Trevilians(a)aol.com
Take a look at one option. It's not final, so I need feedback. The WV
counties are merged into the VA county index, but the link goes to the
main page of WVGenWeb.
Thanks,
Linda
