I don't believe that is what Pat is referring
to. She gest all of the bounces when we send out Announcements.Â
PAT: Can you please advise and clarify for us? Thanks.Â
I just got back and my inboxes have an avalanche
of emails on this subject. I will try to answer
them in the order received, more or less :)
The EC maintains one list (Oversight) with subsets:
1) Active - On the Membership Roll. They may or
may not be registered to vote. Active members
receive all mail from the new Announce list. I
receive all bounces for mail sent from the Announce list.
2) Inactive (nomail) - When a member's email
bounces 3 or more times (Announce list mailings),
they are marked as Inactive. If registered to
vote, their voter registration is removed. The SC
or PC and the appropriate regional AB members are
notified. Even though Inactive (and unreachable),
under the current guidelines they remain on the Membership Roll.
3) Dropped - these are members who have left the
project for whatever reason. They are no longer
"on the Membership Roll." Unless deceased, a
member can be reactivated upon application.
Separate lists for these categories, as well as a
registered voter list can be generated, but Gayle
or I must do so manually by sorting regional and special project spreadsheets.
Mike is correct that we are asking for guidance
as to how long Inactive (nomail) members should
be maintained on the Membership Roll. Is there a
point when they should be DROPPED, and no longer considered a member.

I agree with Larry.
There is a difference in the various lists EC
uses, as I understand it, and the request from
EC concerns only one list as the procedures
cover the other lists. There is the Electronic's
Project Wide Membership List (ECWML). There is
the Voter Registration List (VRL). There is the
Chronic eMail Bounce List (CEBL). People get
moved from VRL to CEBL after three email
attempts have bounced. The guidance EC is asking
from AB is how long should a member be on the
CEBL before removal from the ECWML.Â
3 months is good.
