I don't understand. I just received your email on two of the lists
you reference as off-line.

As many of you may already know, the mail lists at Rootsweb/Ancestry
that
we have all come to rely on for The USGenWeb Project have been offline for
quite some time now. I requested an update and received a response on July
9, that said that they were in the process of updating servers but they
could not give us a timeline as to when this would be complete.
You probably also know that earlier this year many of the websites lost
material due to something with their servers and they tried to bring them
all back up online but some sites were not completely restored.
It goes without saying that you should always keep a full back up of your
websites.
That being said, I've requested another update from Rootsweb and am trying
to determine if we need to make other arrangements for our mail lists. I
know that many state coordinators have set up their mail lists otherwise on
Yahoo or Google or otherwise.
My preference is that this posting not bring out all of the negative
comments that folks have about Rootsweb/Ancestry. We have all had our
opinions and listened to everyone else's about these issues. I'm just
pointing out that it may be time to make a decision as to whether we need
to start managing our lists elsewhere.
I will advise when I hear back from Rootsweb/Ancestry. I fully expect
another canned answer. I hope it isn't as I have also provided them with
my contact number to call me. I doubt that they will, but it never hurts
to try.
Thanks for your understanding.
