I have been building my own national web site. How ever, its not a
genealogy site. I was going to advertise our genweb there, but ran into
complaints about using the wrong logos so I deleted it all and not sure
when I might mention it there again.
But as CC, I have hosted two of my counties on my domain.
I figure thats a donation of sorts. I would host them all,but thats a
lot of re coding.

I am definitely in favor of this as it is very much a common funding
model
throughout the internet as you mention Patrice. Donations are voluntary, so
a person can choose to donate, or choose not to donate.
Donations would offset the costs of hosting fees as you mention. It also
helps relieve some of the funding burden from the CCs directly in states
where CC's may be asked for contributing towards hosting fees if able. In
TNGenWeb, our County Coordinators have contributed funds over the past 5
years or so to pay for our hosting fees and it would be great to ask for
donations from visitors and site users. And, in the next few months, it
will be time for me to send out another donation request to the TNGenWeb
CCs - how nice it would be to not have to limit to just them? Many, many
people are grateful for the incredible information the USGenWeb provides
and some may wish to contribute as a way of helping in lieu of other ways
they may not be able. :-)
