Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

You can have groups on Facebook and they can be completely private so no
one who is not a member can even see that it exists, it can be a closed
group, you an see that it exists and who the members are, but only
members can see and read posts. or can it be totally open and anyone can
see and read posts but only members can post to the group. Much as a yahoo
group or google works. I belong to and own several on genealogy . Some are
closed and some are public and I have one secret group that I save
recipes and such to try out when I get back on my feet again.

Interesting.
And I thought I was all alone in this ;)
I bet lots of us have the similar feelings or thoughts too.

Dan,
That was a humorous web link to read. It seemed to be written by someone
with humor in mind and/or an axe to grind.
My reasons for being on Facebook for x years is that I can connect with
high school classmates I've not heard from in 4x years. However since most
of my Facebook friends I have met in real life or we share something of
interest in common, it provides the avenue to keep in touch in a variety of
ways - what's going on with my family via pictures and or notices and their
like notices to me.
I've used it to post diary entries from three to four family members over a
140 year time span, curious enough to see what was important enough for
them to write down in dear diary.
My family, spread across the country also shares via pictures of children
and grandchildren - which beats emailing them or mailing them and is
basically cost free.
Like most people, I would say even in real life don't talk to their friends
on a daily basis, perhaps not even monthly - I see little difference in
communication via Facebook or communication pre-Internet with friends or
acquaintances.
Other than acquiring a virus from Facebook by clicking on a link - which
could happen just as easily on any other site, I don't know that Facebook
is doing anything to my computer.
I don't worry about privacy since the government already has the NSA busy
building dossiers on all of us.
As for the safety of Google - having spent a couple of hours today cleaning
multiple Gmail accounts compromised by rancid spam - I find it no safer
than Facebook.

Alta Vista? Wow I thought that died years ago.
The plus for Facebook is that one can easily share pictures without knowing
a lick of code from the contributor, who likely will give permission to
post to one's web site.

Every election, I feel like I was just handed a trig book when I'm only in
2nd grade math.
The process always feels.... confusing. (Heck, for real life elections, I
have to call the County Election Board for basic info!)
I always WANT to participate. But I always feel I'm uniformed and "dumb".
Some of you longstanding project members probably know countless names of
people in the US / State projects. I don't. (Perhaps many CCs don't know
just like I feel?)
I just wrote to Denise about this. I could only name about 5 folks, by
first names / maybe initial of last name. Partly that is my problem-- my
former occupation trained me to quickly forget names except who was right
in front of me. But regardless of my issue, I still feel the Elections
could help everyone-- provide a link to names? Suggest where we can review
people who like doing Admin work overseeing areas of the project?
I'm just gonna put this out there--- If anyone wants to be nominated for a
position, would you email me? I'd like to participate (and learn) but I
need some help, folks, to do even a nomination. :-< Give me a clue? Make
a suggestion? Tout your interest and that you want to be in xx position?
(Or, if you know somebody who would like to be nominated but is shy?)
Oh-- and they want *your* email and State for the nominations form...
which I don't know... so..
Maybe other members feel lost, too, and that's why voting is so low? Could
someone(s) guide me?
P.S. I am not on the google group list, so please respond to the Discuss /
RW list or contact me offlist
