My, my! The Handbook of Texas says the town of Duffau was named for an
Indian named Duffo buried nearby!
And here I was under the impression that the town was named for Francis
T. Duffau. county clerk of Milam County from 1846 to 1850, who received
patents to two tracts of land just down the creek by that name in Bosque
County. Bosque Territory, which included Erath County, was previously a
part of Milam.
I wonder if anyone knows where the Indian Duffo is buried....
