Nita, she will not talk about it except fpr an occasional comment about a
bright spot, like the Australian Missionary, s wife who had a baby the
second day after coming to them from Santa Tomas or Los Banos. She did
give me her service record. If she claimed a veterans pension it would
cut her social security. She also said on the hill overlooking Manilla in
the old mostly vacant prison, they had bunk beds 18" apart end to end
double decked the full length of any hall that had room. She put her bars
on the line one Christmas by demanding the girls get a tree and some
Christmas music to avoid total burnout. The commander let them decorate a
slab. Some troops added some floor and a phonograph and they danced a
little. She was told that all must pull normal duties plus surgery and
overtime, but , any time they were off they could dance or listen to Guy
Lombardo or whoever. Their espirit De Corps skyrocketed.
Please remind others to not ask prying questions of Veterans. They will
talk when they are ready and some still are trying to forget. Wait until
they volunteer info.
Tell me how they censored Australia from one E mail she sent us, but the
Australian Penny got through with the E mail. Boy, that must have been
How do you explain the friend of hers in the military from Selden, Texas
who told several in the community that when he was injured in Pearl
Harbor, she sewed him up on the sopot to stop him from bleeding to death,
when she says she was not in Pearl Harbor or that island during the war?
I just don't ask.

I wish your Aunt would write a book on her life. I worked for a brief
