Yes, and half of Texas including some Stephenville writers and reporters
spell it Seldon, but the school on Texas records was Selden, as is the
village with the Highway department. All deeds show Selden- the name of
the owner of the Selden Ranch. Church minutes consistently say Selden.
Why , then, do some insist on calling it Seldon after the name Garrett
Springs was dropped??
H. Grady Perry has comments in his book of the theories of how Dublin was
named. He grew up near there and was a State Representative. He also
points out that the Irish descendants there may have been from=other U.S.
Dublins. Doubleinn sounds like some Scotchman with a straight face and
tongune in cheek while he told this story. May be true. Then was Clara
Atkins right when she told us at school that Johnsville got its name from
the unusual number of Johns there- John Bunch, John Little, John
Crockett, John Skipper, John Mills, John Belcher, John Rumph and a dozen
or so more, or was it the name of the first Postmaster? The first makes
the best story, but the Postal authorities probably named the post office
after the first Postmaster. She also said it was once called
"Whoodathoutit " by a Stephenville Banker's wife when she saw a new house
on the open range there.

Historical Society), it states that the name Dublin came from the
"double in" meaning to get together. It states this expression was
when the settlers needed to get together in order to protect
