In answer to one of your questions, John Nance Garner was a Cousin. As far
as the other questions I will have to talk to one on my Aunt's. She would
know if the others are related.
Was it your family which owned the land where Garner State Park in Erath
County" Since it closed , another State Park has the name. I think it is
named for National Politian John Nance Garner. The Erath County park
was pretier and as good facilities as many still open.
It had some handicaps;
1. The Stephenville Club Lake was nearer town and good fishing from bqnk
2. It was on one road to Mingus Liquor from Stephenville and a good
place for party goers to picnic with Alcohol. , which made swimming
there dangerous from broken bottles.East side of County went to Glen
Rose for such. It was more popular for families and Reunions with law
3. One of my kin said she hoped they closed it, as too many "Evil Things"
happened there at night. She would not believe the number of State
Parks where entire families camp today.
Were Dave and James and Wayne Garner of Selden related to you? One of my
first cousins, Imogene Hatchett married James Garner , wh retired from
the Erath County REA years ago. Imogene is still living in Garland.
James's sister Faye was one of the first Telephone switchboards in the
County, with 3 or 4 lines . John Kay of Selden owned the first telephone
systems in Erath County A few had existed at Johnsville before my time,
but never heard of a switchboard. May have been one.
