Hi all: Just read that a new database is being
prepared jointly by the Church and the National Park Service, called the
Civil War Soldiers System (CWSS). This project will eventually hold
approximately 3.5 million names of Union and Confederate soldiers
including their rank and regiment. With cross-referencing and alternate
spelling there will be approx. 5.5 million names total. The project is
slated to be completed sometime in late 1999. It is about 60% completed
with some 231,000 names of the "U.S. Colored Troops" already up and
running. The records may also, in some instances, contain such
information as campaign summaries, cemetery records, prisoner of war
records, engagements and monuments. It will be availabe when completed
at all National Park Civil War historic sites, other libraries and
repositories, including the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
This invaluable work can assist those researching CW veterans in
identifying name, rank and regiment. Researchers will still need to
send for original records in Washington, D.C., but this could be the key
to unlocking unknown information. You can watch the NPS page as they
continue to build it at:
I know I will be checking it out! Hope this information helps those of
you out there looking for CW soldiers. Isn't it wonderful when
technology is used for such worthwhile and exciting things! Glenys
I am searching for information on ROBINSON families that came from KY to
settle in Erath Co during the 1870's. In particular, a Dudley ROBINSON. Is
anyone researching this county aware of ROBINSON families in the county
during this period that might have been from KY?
I am submitting this information again for the Roll Call, in case there are
new subscribers since then. Thank You.

My name is Sarah Clark Stevens, and I live in Commerce, Hunt County,
Texas. I am trying to locate any family connected to my g grandmother
ELLEN CAROLINE WOLFE SANDERS KARNEY. She was born on 28 November 1840
in Johnson County, Arkansas. She had a twin sister named Martha. Three
other known siblings were TOBE, SARAH, and SALLIE WOLFE. ELLEN first
married ALEX SANDERS in Collin County and had three children before he
died. She then married a widower named JOHN DAVID KARNEY in Hopkins
County. The couple had eight children.
ELLEN'S Civil War Widow's Pension states that she was in Texas by age 4,
yet I have been unable to locate this family in Texas. I traveled to
Johnson County this summer to try and find who her parents were. I
found only one Wolfe in 1840 Census. He was Andrew Davis Wolfe with his
wife Lucinda. Lucinda was listed as deceased by 1845. I feel that
there is a good chance that these Wolfe children came to Texas to live
with friends or family after their mother died.
My grandmother always said that her mother was related to the WOLFES who
started the WOLFE NURSERY chain. The nurseries were started by ROSS R.
WOLFE in Stephenville in 1919. Can anyone help me with any info on this
I am Homer M "Pete" Simmons retired and living in Gulf Breeze, FL. My
Great Grandmother Henrietta Rebecca KILLION (born in 1870 in Emory
(Rains Co), TX in 1870) lived in Erath county after she was married in
1889. The life story she wrote indicated she lived in Duffau on a farm
for a short time between 1890 and 1900. Her father, James M KILLION is
buried in Valley Grove Cemetery, Stephenville, in 1913. James M. was
staying with a son from his first marriage to Elizabeth C PALMER who
supposedly died in Erath Co in 1863 (place of burial unknown). It is
known that there were other KILLIONS in the Erath area.
Henrietta Rebecca KILLION married a William Alonzo THOMPSON, born in AL
in 1868, in Hamilton, Hamilton Co., TX. There is no information on his
father but his mother M. A.(probably Mary Ann) EVANS remarried a
Charles STARLEY in AL in about 1870. William Alonzo was raised with the
children of this marriage. Some of the names of the children are Fred
Evans STARLEY, Minnie L. STARLEY (married W. S. HUBBARD in Erath Co),
John STARLEY. I should leave the details on the STARLEY family to a
researcher I'm in contact with that has considerable information on them
. I will advise her of this net. The Starley family apparently lived on
about 100 acres close to some river near Duffau.
There were two of M. A.;s bothers who came to Texas from AL. They are
John EVANS and George EVANS. Little is known of them.
Hope to get in touch with some of the descendants of the surnames
