The State Library & Archives has recently posted a
complete (we hope!) list of all the Post Offices that
ever operated in Tennessee, with their county and
years of operation.
This is a very useful list for people looking for the
location of a "lost" town or village. In the period ca.
1880 the postmaster appointments were important
political plums, so every burg was supplied with a
post office and local flunky of the proper party! Little
clusters of homes that were, even then, just wide
spots in the road (my favorite is "Sherrill" in Coffee
County!) are found on the list.

Let me know if you find it useful. The volunteer and
staff member who did the work would enjoy knowing
their months of effort were worthwhile.
