Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Best of luck to all you people who were just elected. Think we have the
best!
And thank you Bridgett for all the time and effort you have given to us.

Edgar, Renea, and others,
Just wanted to share what I am using to code. Just throw this in the
"for what its worth" department.
When I installed Office 97 on my computer, I didn't like the fact that
Word automatically interpreted my htm documents as web docs and threw me
into a WYSIWYG mode.
So, I reinstalled my old Word 6.0 in a different directory. Now, I can
use Word 6.0 to code, and Word 97 for other stuff. Word 6.0 is great
for coding. It doesn't do any HTML conversion, so leaves my files
alone. But it will handle really big files, allow me to cut and paste
all I want, etc. Plus I can have multiple files open at one time,
allowing me to cut and paste as I please.

Sure, you turn left just before you get to Jupiter (sorry--an attempt
at a little astronomy humor...).
GNIS (http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html) didn't turn up
any hits for Mars, did turn up three for Mars Hill, in Lawrence,
Marshall, and Rhea counties.

Renea,
I noticed that Frontpage was adding extra coding when I transferred the
queries from Outlook Express directly to the html editor in Frontpage. To
solve the problem, I now copy all the queries first from Outlook Express to
Notepad, then paste from Notepad to Frontpage. Have had to work on the
queries in Frontpage since Notepad will no longer handle the files because
of size. Works great and just takes a few extra minutes of cutting and
pasting. Queries come through looking like they should.

Hi Renea,
Nothing has changed in the autobot. What I am seeing more and more though
is problems folks are having when using assorted flavors of html software.
Word, Front Page, HotDog...pretty much all of those "helpers" throw in
assorted uneeded codes, misinterpreted symbols such as quote marks
appearing as &alt, base hrefs that make your graphics unsuable and img src
tags that refer the browser to some location on your machine rather than
your county directory. I spend a lot of time "fixing" things like this.
My recommendation is to only open/edit queries in a plain text editior
like Notepad. Plain text editors do not add extraneous material.
Also do not, not download your pages from the browser into an html editor
because very often undesireable changes are made to your pages when you do
that, including strange symbols such as %%5, nuked counters and failed ssi
scripts.

Is anyone else having problems with the queries received by the query
system?
I used to receive queries, copy the coding and text just as sent and then
paste to my query page, correct mistakes in grammar/spelling and FTP it to
my site. For the last several months, I have realized that there was a
problem. At first when published, my queries had each letter in the surname
underlined. In May, the coding came in such a way that when you linked to
the person's name to send a message, the address had additional letters. I
checked out the HTML once added to my page and was surprised at what changes
had occurred. I had similar to the following: <a
href="mailto:grburk@usit.net%%5 and so forth. Needless to say I am hand
coding all queries and will be going back to correct earlier mistakes.
Has anyone else had a problem? I use Frontpage 98.

I think the problem with the ballots was that those of us who get this
list in digest form might have overlooked it! I know I sure did.
Jackie Robinson
Hey,
I think that the ballot was fine.
By the way anyone with Geocities might be having a little trouble with
counters, etc.
YAHOO (Mountain Dew) took over today and who knows where it's heading.
Just glad I bought all that Geocities Stock before the big takeover.

Morning everyone :)
I received my ballot exactly when Bridgett said it would be there. It
was from Bridgett Smith and the subject was "1999 TnGenWeb Elections
Ballot". Maybe you overlooked it? I've done that many times. Mari

Got my ballot just fine... already voted. Happy with the entire nomination
