Lloyd J. Proffitt
Lloyd J. Proffitt, 79, 109 Central Drive, Johnson City, went to be with the
Lord with his family by his side on Monday, December 12, 2005, at Sycamore
Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Proffitt was a native of Watauga and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Millard and Lela Mae Pereagoy Proffitt. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by a son, Steve Edward Proffitt, two sisters, Nell
Vandeventer and Susie Miller, and three brothers, Lawrence, Everette and Billy
Proffitt.
Mr. Proffitt was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and
was a retired lifelong member of the U.A. Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #538.
He was a local businessman and had been the previous owner of Elizabethton Gas
and Fuel Company and the Custom Guttering Company. He was a member of Mount
View Church of Christ, formerly the Rock Hill Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Williams Proffitt, of the home; a son
and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Cindy Proffitt, Elizabethton; three grandsons,
Justin and Jonathan Proffitt and Joshua Davis; two sisters and a brother-in-
law, Grace Crowder, Bluff City, and Mary and John Bare, Morristown; and two
brothers and sisters-in-law, Nat and Ruth Proffitt, Elizabethton, and Jimmy and
Earline Proffitt, Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Proffitt will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday,
December 15, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with
Mr. Wayne Boswell, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at
the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. An entombment
service with military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 16,
in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers
will be Justin Proffitt, Jonathan Proffitt, Joshua Davis, Larry Proffitt, Steve
Proffitt, Mike Proffitt, Riley Proffitt and Leon Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers
will be Woody Crowder, Staley Proffitt and Jimmy Fillers. Family and friends
are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon on Friday to travel together
in procession to the cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the Proffitt
