Pension Application Of Joshua Curtis, Natl Archives Microseries M805, Roll __, Application

Davidson County, Tennessee, April 10, 1818, Joshua Curtis:
saith that
he belonged to the army of the United States during the Revolutionary War in
Captain John Armstrongs company in the Continental line from North Carolina as
a soldier in the year 1775, and some time afterwards was discharged, having
served more than 9 months.
And in the year 1777, joined the army again as an ensign in Captain
John Nelsons company of the North Carolina Continental line and served about 6
months as such, and was promoted to a 2nd lieutenant in Captain Micajah Lewiss
company, and was promoted after the Battle of Germantown to a first lieutenant
and served as first lieutenant 5 or 6 months and resigned at the Valley Forge
and that he served as a soldier and an officer aforesaid 2 years and 125 days.
Joshua Curtis now resides in Davidson County, in the state of
Tennessee and is reputed to be a very poor old man. James Tatum
On the 19th of May, 1818, the before named Joshua Curtis came before
me and made oath that when he resigned at Valley Forge aforesaid, he delivered
his commission to General George Washington and that he does not know where it
is. Joshua Curtis, 2nd Lt.
This pensioner, Joshua Curtis, died November 28, 1818 in Davidson
County, TN and April 24, 1819, George Washington Curtis, administrator was paid
$150.24 to cover period from April 10, 1818 to November 28, 1818, date of
soldiers death.
