State of Tennessee
Hawkins County
In the matter of William B. Burns pensioner in act of June 27 1890 Certificate
No.797568 for reinstatment in response to notice given March 13,1895
personally
appeared before me Robert Henard a Notary Public in and for county and state
above named G. C. Bailes aged 35 years of age and David R. Bailey 35 years of
age both of New Hope Post Office Hawkins County and State of Tennessee who
being
duly sworn depose as follows - we have been acquainted with claimant since our
earley youth but never labored with him any until about 15 years ago. We
worked
first with him in harvest but worked at different places and affiant Bailey
remembers claiment - Burns complaining of hsi head, his back and one of his
legs
but affiant Bailes does not remember his complaint at that time. Affiant
Bailes
remembers claiment s complaining of his back in the year 1883 but has not been
with him much since until the last wo years but have been with him regular the
last two years and he complains considerabley of his back and sometimes of his
head and one of his legs. Affiant Baily says he worked with claimant every
year
the past 12 years and in all of this time claiment complains considerably of
his
head his back and one of his legs. Generally complaining mostly of his back.
Knows him at one time confined to his house and from all appearance seemed to
be
suffering pain at times worse than at other times for a period of four weeks.
Affiants both consider that from the time they first labored with him until
the
present time that in their opinion hs is failing and cannot perform more than
half the labor now in the same time that he could when we first labored with
him. Affiant Bailey says claiment Burns has labored for him at such work as
plowing and claimant never charges for a full days labor for he was not able
to
do labor enought to earn full wages. This April 5, 1895 signed G C Bails,
David
R. Bailey
Sworn to and subscribed in my presence and affiants dictated the within
statement to me and I reduced the same to writing as they instructed me. They
made their statement from memory and not prompted by any prepared statment
formerly prepared. This done April 5 1895 signed Robert Henard Notary Public

State of Tennessee
County of Hawkins In the matter of claim for reinstatement of pension of
William
B. Burns now Pensioner on Certificate No.797568, personally appeared before me
Robert Henard an acting Notary Public in above named County and State, Charles
Luster 39 years of age a resident of New Hope, Tenn who being duly sworn
deposes
as I have known claimant Burns for past 20 years have labored with him some
most
every year during that intire time at farm labor have lived near claimant
during
the intire time. When I first became acquainted with him, I noticed him
snuffling with his nose I asked him what made him snuffle, just habit and he
told me he had catarrh in his head that troubled him was the cause of the
snuffling and would often complain of his head. Some years after say nine or
ten
years since he began complaining of his back hurting him and to all appearance
seemed to suffer considerable pain at times. At one time was confined to his
house for about four weeks and said his back was what was troubling him most.
Claimant has also ben complaining for several years with one of his legs
hurting
him. Agreeable to my knowledgte of claiment Burns he cannot perform half the
amount of labor at this time that he could when I first labored with him.
There
is no kind of labor on a farm that he can labor all day at. His troubles all
seem to be increasing. I dictated the contents of this affidavit to the
undersigned Notary Public and he reduced the same to writing as I cannot
write.
I dictated the same from memory only and not from any written or printed
statement formerly prepared. I have no interest in this claim. This April 6,
1895 - Charles X Luster (his mark) Witness: Kate Henard, David Sarver

Sworn to and subscribed to before me I read the contents of the foregoing
affidavit to affiant before signing and acquainted him with its contents. I
have
no interst in said claim- Claimant is a credable person - This done April the
6th 1895 - Robert Henard Notary Public
