(no 7) James Cooper Certificate
I, James Cooper, of the county of Hawkins and State of Tennessee, do certify
that in the section of country in which I live, I have heard it generally
spoken of by the soldiers who were in the battle of King's Mountain that Col
Campbell did not act as bravely on that occassion as he did on some others,
that it was a well known fact that he did not make his appearance at the place
of surrender until after the _____ had been taken from their arms and placed
under guard - that this is the way in which I have always heard my neighbors
James Campbell, Wm Long and several others speak of this matter. Given under
my hand this 18th February, 1823.
