Ella H. Miller
Mrs. Ella Mae Hampton Miller, age 90, 1732 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton,
was born on Oct. 3, 1915, and passed away following an extended illness on
March 18, 2006, at her residence surrounded by family. A native of Carter
County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard B. and Mary Etta Nave Hampton.
Affectionately called "Ma," she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother known for her Sunday dinners. Though she was mostly a homemaker,
she had been employed at the Elizabethton Steam Laundry and as a cook at Gap
Creek Elementary School. She was a member and faithful attendant of Gap Creek
Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Miller, on Aug. 13, 1986; a
stepmother, Gladys Hampton Eller; three brothers, Paul Hampton, Samuel Hampton,
and Ray Hampton; two sisters, Ethel Hampton, Orlia Harrison, four brothers-in-
law, Willie Miller, Arthur Miller, Howard Miller, and Henry Harrison; and two
sisters-in-law, Wanda Lee Hampton, Maetrue Nave.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Marie Miller,
Shelby and Creola Miller, all of Elizabethton; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Brenda and Bill Brown, Karen and Anthony Lyons, all of Elizabethton; the
following grandchildren, Gary and Meg Brown, Piney Flats, Tammy and Craig
Howard, Kingsport, Renee and Shawn Horton, Elizabethton, Amy and Joseph Seabra,
Kissimmee, Fla., Wendy Miller, Elizabethton, Neil Miller, Elizabethton; and two
great-grandchildren, Whitney Miller and Ethan Horton; four brothers and six
sisters-in-law, John and Barbara Hampton, Unicoi, Roy Hampton, Johnson City,
Jerry and Sandy Hampton, Knoxville, Earl and Glenda Hampton, Johnson City, Vera
Scott, Johnson City, Lucy Hughes Gartner, Abingdon, Va., and Lorado Hampton,
Elizabethton; and many very special nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ella Mae Hampton Miller, will be conducted at 8
p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Mr.
Leon Langston, minister, and Mr. David Slayton, minister, officiating. Music
will be under the direction of Bobby McGee, soloist. The family will receive
friends in the funeral home chapel from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service hour, or
at her residence, 1732 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton any time. The graveside
service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Centerview Church
of Christ Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law,
Gary Brown, Neil Miller, Craig Howard, Shawn Horton, Joseph Seabra and nephews,
Vic Harrison and Terry Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and
nieces, her Gap Creek Christian Church family, the Adventa Hospice staff,
especially Pam Bunting, Shelia Rouse, Denise Odom, and Dorothy Bently. Those
who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home
chapel on Monday at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of
flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gap Creek Christian Church, 1840
Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Online condolences may be sent to the
