Ruth E. Hughes
Ruth Elizabeth Nuckles Hughes, 80, 504 Maple Street, Elizabethton, died
Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at the residence.
Mrs. Hughes was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late
Everett G. and Mineola Banner Nuckles. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hughes, January 23, 1980.
Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Science Hill High School and a former
resident of Piney Flats. She worked for Raytheon Corporation for many years and
was a retired employee of the Tennessee Department of Employment Security,
having retired in 1982. She was a member of Piney Flats United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mattie Jo Hughes, Elizabethton, and a
granddaughter, Joanna Hughes Magner.
Graveside services for Mrs. Hughes will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday,
February 15, at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Fred Meredith and
Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Interment will follow the service.
Pallbearers will be selected from friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made in memory of Mrs. Hughes to the Holston United Methodist Home for
Children, 404 Holston Drive, Greeneville, TN 37743, or to the Piney Flats
United Methodist Church or the Believers Family Worship Center, P.O. Box 279,
Mountain City, TN 37683. The family would like to express a special "Thank You"
to Adventa Hospice and Wilson Home Health. Also a special "Thank You" to Phil
and Robin Shaffer, Crystal Miniard, Rosalind Nave and Fred and Jennie Meredith.
Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday.
