Elizabethton Star August 20, 2006
Wilma T. Oxendine
Wilma Yvonne Hensley Oxendine, 82, of Elizabethton, died Friday, August
18, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Jonah and Bess
Frazier Hensley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
ex-husband and special friend, Dan Oxendine.
Mrs. Oxendine was a 1943 graduate of Elizabethton High School and was
employed in the Coning Department of the Bemberg Corporation until it closed.
She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
In leaving her earthly home to her eternal rest with her Heavenly Father
and the many others who were waiting joyfully for her, she leaves behind a
broken circle that can never be repaired until we meet again. With hearts that
are at this time broken beyond repair, she leaves her sisters, I.M. "Pat"
Bowers, Johnson City, and Sarah E. Lewis, of the home; one nephew, David
Estep, the love of her life; one great-niece, Christy L. Estep, and one great-
great-niece, Kathryn Elizabeth Hartman, who will never know the love in her
heart for them, and her "Baybee" Dog, who misses her. She is also survived by
several cousins and a "special" sister, Johnnie Fair. She was a
special "Mamaw" to Chris, Teresa, Jake, Keela and Christopher Range, who can
never be thanked enough for everything. We love you. She was a "Wilmee,"
an "Aunt Willomee," an "Aunt Wilma" to her special ones: Jacob, Ethan,
Benjamin, Jackie, Sierra, Nathanial, Olivia, Peyton and especially "Cadyn."
Also, Joyce Henson, Sandra Boyd, Sarah Carden and Diana Campbell, and a very
special cousin and childhood friend, Marie Treadway.
Graveside services for Mrs. Oxendine will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday,
August 21, at Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Maines officiating.
Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to
assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, will be David Estep, Chris
Range, John M. Frazier, Jack Morton, John Hensley, Jake Range and Harry Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be John D. Cleary, James Mains, her neighbors and
friends. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Carter
County Rescue Squad and to the E.R. and Intensive Care Departments of the
Johnson City Medical Center. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in
memory of Mrs. Oxendine to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 776,
