Vonnie M. Miller
Vonnie M. Miller, 83, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, formerly of Roan
Mountain, died at Ivy Hall Saturday, January 21, 2006.
Mrs. Miller was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John
and Lilly Campbell McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Ples Miller, a brother, Erbie McKinney, and two sisters,
Bonnie Fillers and Donnie Hash.
Mrs. Miller was a retired cook at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk,
N.C. She was of the Holiness faith and attended Willow Springs Baptist Church.
She loved people and loved to cook.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Jeff Lowe,
Elizabethton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Miller, Hampton,
and Terry Miller, Roan Mountain; two granddaughters, Sherryn Marion and her
husband Billy of New Hampshire, and Misty Miller, Roan Mountain; and a great-
grandson, Kyle Marion, of New Hampshire. Several nieces and nephews also
survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miller will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday,
January 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Douglas Rasnick and her son-in-law,
Jeff Lowe, officiating. Music will be provided by the Smith Sisters. Graveside
services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, in the Miller
Cemetery, Sugar Hollow, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Doug Hardin officiating.
Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10
a.m. Wednesday, will be Mike Ingram, Lonnie Shell, Roger Cordell, Randy Miller,
Rick Miller and Jerry Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be John Shell Sr., John
Shell Jr., Kenneth Poole, Erik McMilliam, Rick Lowe and Jeff Guinn. The family
will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Family and
friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday to go to the
cemetery. Condolences to the Miller family may be e-mailed to
