BELFIELD WOOD
Belfield Wood applied for revolutionary pension while living in Fentress
County, Tennessee, in August, 1833, when he was 80 years of age. He was born in
Orange County, Virginia, and reared there and in Chesterfield County. He moved
to Burke County, North Carolina, and was living there in 1776 when he enlisted
in Captain Reuben White's company, Colonel Charles McDowell's regiment. In the
latter part of 1781 he enlisted in Captain Thomas Kennedy's company, Colonel
Locke's regiment. After the Revolution he moved to Pendleton County, South
Carolina, where he lived twenty-two years. He then moved to Madison County,
Kentucky, thence to Wayne County, Kentucky, where he lived ten years, thence to
Fentress County, Tennessee, where died April 6, 1736.[sic] His widow, Nancy
Kidwell Wood, applied for pension while living in Wayne County, Kentucky, where
she lived with her son, Belfield Wood, Jr., in September, 1856. She married
Belfield Wood March 15, 1810, in Pendteton County, South Carolina. The ceremony
was performed by Henry Burch. Her maiden name was Kidwell. She was born in 1792,
and may have been Belfield Wood's second wife as she was about forty years
younger than he. After the death of Belfield Wood she married Thomas Millsaps.
