JOHN WEAR
John Wear applied for revolutionary pension while residing in Sullivan
County, Tennessee in March, 1833. He was born January 12, 1741, on Shammony
Creek, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. While he was a resident of Greene County,
North Carolina, later Tennessee, he served in North Carolina troops as follows:
From January 1, 1781, three months in Captain John Sevier's company in pursuit
of Tories; from the last of August, 1781, three months in Captain William Tate's
company. He was in the Siege of Yorktown and was present at the surrender of
Cornwallis. From the latter part of January, 1782, he was four months in Captain
Moses Moore's company, and in Captain Samuel Wear's company. John Wear moved to
the Mississippi River in 1800 and to Christian County, Kentucky, where he
remained only a few months. He then moved to Sevier County, Tennessee.

Samuel Wear. The family emigrated from Pennsylvania to Augusta County, Virginia,
when Samuel and John were children and they moved to Washington County, North
Carolina, (later Tennessee) during the Revolution. John Wear married in Augusta
County, Virginia, Nancy Blackburn, daughter of Benjamin Blackburn. Their
children were: Elizabeth, who married James Gray; Phoebe Wear, who married
